Late 19th Century Indian Red Tikka Box (1) Chairs dry honey-brown glazeThis stunning box originated in India and is known as a Tikka box. This box was handcrafted from wood and, due to its age, has a faded deep red colour, apart from the inside which is black with remnants of orange powder. It has a circular shape with a distinct hand carved lid on top. Originally, it was used to store sacred powders such as kumkum powder or vermillion. They are then used for applying a bindi or tilak on the forehead during religious
